DR. A S VARADARAJAN obtained his BTech. Degree from Calicut University, Kerala, M Tech and PhD from IIT Madras. Has got 33years of teaching/research experience. Has done pioneering work in the area of Green Manufacturing with a focus on cutting fluid minimization. Other areas of interest include electric discharge machining and machining of composites. Has got 70 publications to his credit and his publications are being referred by several researchers worldwide doing research work in the field of green manufacturing (Reference- Google Scholar - Key words: A S Varadarajan, Hard turning).

He is a recognized research guide of Karunya University, the University of Calicut and the Dr. APJ Abdulkalam Technological University and has successfully guided 3 doctoral research programs under Karunya University and currently guiding 3 more doctoral research programs under the same University.

He is the recipient of the AIMTDR best research work award 2000 and the Production Engineering division gold medal of the Institution of Engineers 2001. Received Prof. MM Ghani award for the best college teacher of the University of Calicut and Prof. Bahauddin award for the distinguished teacher of Kerala (2013) for his contributions in teaching and research.

He was a faculty of Engineering in the Senate of Calicut University (2000-2003) and a member of the board of Examiners to adjudicate PhD .thesis of Bharathiar University, Cochin University of Science and Technology and Osmania University and nominated as the convener of the curriculum development committee for mechatronics Engineering by the Dr. APJ Abdulkalam Technological University. He is a life member of ISTE, Fellow member of the Institution of Engineers (India) member of the combustion society of India and CMTI Bangalore.

He has participated in 23 workshops and 10 short term training programs. He organized 3 ISTE sponsored short term training programs, two National Conferences, one International conference and 15 workshops including 4 workshops in Intellectual property rights in the capacity of chief coordinator with funds from leading funding agencies and carried out several consultancy projects.

He developed a Centre for Research in Design and Manufacturing Engineering (CRDM) at Karunya University and continued as its head for five years and supervised several research projects in the area of green manufacturing, intelligent tools and computer integrated manufacturing .During his tenure in Karunya University he established a Post Graduate Diploma program in advanced manufacturing technology in collaboration with the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute Bangalore and another PG diploma program in flow measuring techniques for petroleum products in collaboration with FCRI, Palakkad.

He has developed 3 products, a multipurpose paddy drier with a capacity of 1.5 tones of paddy per hour, a gravity assisted coconut de husker and a coconut de husker with dual piercing heads for which applications are filed for patents and the patent application for the paddy drier has already been published. Considering the usefulness of these products to the agricultural sector, the Regional Agro Industrial Development Corporation of Kerala Ltd. has come forward to manufacture and market them. At present he is in the process of developing a Low cost flat bed paddy drier, a Pneumatic grain transporter cum drier, a multipurpose portable screw conveyer with hot gas heater and a Low cost vegetable drier using agricultural wastes.
